Our Family Tradition on Christmas Morning
You would think working together everyday would be enough or even maybe too much! But when it comes to holidays, especially Christmas, there’s never too much family!
Once we were all married my very wise father realized that would mean he would have to share his family with THE IN LAWS!
He decided to start a tradition to keep the whole family together on Christmas. Mom and dad hosted Christmas Breakfast every year since 1989 afterwhich he would send us all on our way to have dinners with, yep, THE IN LAWS!
Here’s what we do!
After we wake up Christmas morning, we would open presents at our individual homes with our kids, then in our pajamas, bathrobes and slippers we would head over to my parents house.
Dad and Mom would make us an amazing spread for breakfast, and serve it on their finest Christmas china! There would be every type of bagel and muffins and toast on the table while Dad was busy making sausage, bacon, ham, homemade waffles and pancakes, and to top it off he would make us each eggs or cheese omelets to order!
We would arrive in family shifts (depending on who’s an early bird and who likes their sleep), surround the table and enjoy the splendor of their famous breakfast. As each family finished another family would arrive and Dad would continue making his omelets, waffles and pancakes for several hours until we all were fed.
Then we would gather around their Christmas tree to exchange even more gifts. Then the crazy happens! We stock pile our ripped up wrapping paper, roll up it up into balls and have a paper fight. True chaotic craziness all in good fun!!
We’d laugh, we’d sing Christmas songs and we had a great time.
Before the festivities ended, we always took our yearly CRAZY family photo.
28 years later our tradition lives on, we still gather, we still eat, we still throw paper, and we still take a Crazy Garofalo Family photo.
This tradition of Christmas beakfast together at Mom and Dad’s will be remembered as the best part of us!
This is us!
